Inevitability

I sometimes think about the fact that many things are unstoppable, even when we try to do something about them. War, hate, pandemics, so many cruel things happen in this world that we as individuals have no control over as a whole. This is the idea of inevitability that I want to talk about today. About those moments where one feels that it is impossible to change, to act upon something. I think that inevitability is an important factor in life and today I want to go over how this impacts us as a species.

I am quite a great fan of certain shows, particularly in the anime genre. One of my favorite shows was 'Your lie in April' which I think conveys the idea of inevitability in a very optimistic manner. The premise of the show goes as follows, a boy in high school meets the girl of his dreams and performs music with them, revitalizing his passion it after losing it at a very young age. He realizes that she had a terminal illness and makes the most of his time left with her knowing what is to come. To me this specific anime has a personal place in my heart and I am always nostalgic of the feeling I had watching this for the first time. The optimistic idea of inevitability they bring to the table is quite refreshing seeing how a lot of outlooks are usually nihilistic. As a result I feel like this specific anime has changed my outlook on the idea myself and seem to try to make the most of things through any action I can. Knowing that one day I will graduate, probably get a job, get old and die, I will and should try to make the most out of every moment that I experience and live without regrets.

The thing I want to go over is the topic of types of inevitability which I think are quite unique in their own sense. The most typical ones you see are those that fear death, aging, a deadline coming up... but what are some things that are not so talked about. I think one of the less talked topics is the inevitability of evil in this world. It comes as no surprise to you and me that we as human beings are not perfect. We each have our individual flaws which make us unique; Things that encapsulate who we are. Nevertheless, this does not mean that we should not strive to be the best version of ourselves. Living in a world where there is always commonplace evil is not something that any of us want but is here to stay as us humans are evil in nature and is something we must reflect on from our ancient past to our distant future.

Another type that I find quite interesting is the inevitability of judgement which I think also links to evil in a sense through the idea of human nature. Judgment is quite a unique feature we have as conscious beings as we are able to process what is socially acceptable and unacceptable. Judgement plays a large role in deciding these social norms. Those that are popular will choose what is considered trendy and those that are out of this loop are judged for being different. Now how is this inevitable? I think that our society consists of a social hierarchy where those in power are able to decide on what we are able to do socially. We are forced to judge others to, not just maintain order from this system, but to protect ourselves from societal backlash.

All in all, inevitability is a part of our lives and is woven into the fabric of the universe. All decisions we make are predetermined in a sense due to the nature of physics so would we call all our decisions inevitable? I think I have come to not hate such a concept but rather accept it with open arms after watching 'Your lie in April', as instead of rejecting a fact, we should optimize our gain from such an ending. This was really quite a great topic to talk about today and I hope you have a great day!
